I believe the reason for Goober ripping his suit jacket was because he
needed to be wearing a more stylish one to the car show if his friend was
going to think he was as prosperous as Goober claimed. It sure was
convenient that Andy just happened to take along an extra suit for a one
night stay over in Raleigh. Interesting too that Goober was wearing his own
suit on their way back to Mayberry. I have also wondered too why they wore
those dark suits while riding in a convertible with the top down on a warm
summer day. Would have made more sense to wear comfortable casual clothes on
the trip to Raleigh and then change into their formal wear once they got
there. Of course folks in Mayberry always dressed up for everything. And
how did Aunt Bee manage to keep her hair so neat while riding in the back
seat of a convertible while driving on a freeway? When my wife and I cruise
in my '66 Impala convertible her hair is always a mess even when she sits in
the front seat. This episode always makes me wonder too where all the good
folks of Mayberry buy their gas if Goober only pumps 80 gallons a day.
School buses and town trucks and farmers must all get it elsewhere. Lots to
think about in this "My favorite color episode". I see myself many times
when Goober tries to impress his friend especially when friends of mine over
the years used to ask me, "Oh are you still teaching third grade in that
little town of Fall Creek."
