Re Ken Anderson's question about who would make a good female deputy
in Mayberry:

One might consider Aunt Bee, who on several occasions crusaded for the
underdog and once turned the Taylor home into "The Rock." But it's
unlikely she could pass the physical test to earn her badge, and for
most of the TAGS run had no driver's license, so she couldn't operate
the squad car. And besides, if she were wearing the badge, who'd make
dinner?

Hmmm... Daphne and Skippy, maybe? Could the Fun Girls be reformed into
law enforcers? Nah.

Helen Crump showed courage under fire (she frequently stood up to
inattentive schoolboys and an obstinate Andy), but just imagine the
charges of nepotism and favoritism if she had become Andy's
second-in-command!

Thelma Lou was too emotional (but if she'd become deputy, we might've
learned her last name!), and Frankie the Farm Girl got too "purty" to
serve (plus she was busy raising future farmhands for the family
business).

Looks like the candidates from within wouldn't work. But seriously
pondering Ken's question from this perspective -- What if TAGS'
producers had chosen an actress to be the new deputy after Don Knotts
left the show? -- how about Carol Burnett?
