I can't imagine eating watermelon without salt! What a boring dish that would be. I grew up here in North Carolina using salt on both my watermelons AND cantaloupes.
I grew up in NC with other relatives in Georgia. They all seemed to switch off on watermelon with and without salt. Personally, I like it without salt. As for cantaloupe, my Dad adds pepper to his, especially when he has it with scrambled eggs, bacon and toast for breakfast.
