Some of you folks must have been very affluent, buying penny candy. When we
got a nickle, we'd buy 2 or a penny candy. Mary Janes, Mint Juleps, Pixie
Sticks, etc. Of course, there were times when I'd get a 5 pack of baseball
cards. I knew my sister would give me a Mary Jane or two. I gave her a Mickey
Mantle, she thought he was cute.
When I played Little League we had 15 players on the team. One of our players
father would buy each of us a snow cone after each game. We thought he must
have been really rich, after all a snow cone was 10 cents and this man was
spending $1.50 every game. I never did bite off the bottom and suck out the
syrup.
