I will never understand why TVLand doesn't run spooky episodes on Halloween weekend like other channels. But I was prepared.I Tivoed "The Haunted House" in September and watched it early this morning. It is a perfect piece of Halloween fun.The choreography when Andy, Barn and Gomer walk into the old Rimshaw house together and bend down in unison as Andy retrieves the lost baseball! Great.I do love the inclusion of baseball in this episode, perfect for a weekend with the World Series and Halloween blended together. And Ron Howard has a nice swing, even with such a heavy bat. Nice Whitey Ford/Mickey Mantle reference as well."I guess that makes you sheriff now" -- great line from Gome. And you have to admire Barn's courage as he re-enters the house despite his fear. Don Knotts was truly a comic master.I also watched the haunted house episode of "Happy Days" this week and it's a fine piece of TV comedy. But the quality pales like a sheet-clad child in comparison to the shadows, wit and style evident in the Andy episode. Art. Just pure art.And I noticed it ran in October 1963 during the series' fourth and, imho, best season. The episodes that surround it are at the same high level. _______________________________________________ WBMUTBB mailing list [email protected] http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
