I picked up my Season 2 of Gomer Pyle USMC off the shelf forogetting that there was some episodes I had not yet seen. Here is a quick highlight review of TAGS alums near the end of Season 2.
Susan Oliver (Prisoner of Love) plays a very different character. She is a wholesome girl that welcomes a courtship with Gomer, who is different than "all the other guys" that take her up to lookout point (Gomer actually goes up there to look out and listen to the sounds) Nice Dress Nellie and one of Mayberry's portly background actors appear when Gomer visits Las Vegas. This time Sgt Carter has an unlikely girlfriend in Joyce Jamison (Skippy of the Fun Girls) The laugh is a dead giveaway. Mayberry's most famous hobo, that tricks Opie and his Robin Hood buddies into stealing food for him, turns up as a con man that plays a very similar role duping Gomer and his seargent into giving him meals and money. Think Goldbrick Wheeler meets the hobo. Also Mayberry's man of many characters (Allen Melvin)appears as Sgt Hacker in what I believe is one of his first apperances as what later became a regular character. The most surprising appearance is one that Opie makes. In a strange story he shows up at Camp Henderson (San Diego CA) after running away from Mayberry. Andy even shows up at the end to take Opie home. Is just seems so out-of-character for Opie and he is so seious the whole episode. I know is not a shock to see some familar faces in a spin-off, but uts still fun. Ken Lynch is even seen again as another law enforcement officer.
