My only thought on whether Howard McNear's disability due to stroke should have
been worked into the show is that it is entirely possible that Mr. McNear did
not want it acknowledged. It's well known that Andy Griffith held Mr. McNear
in high regard and I doubt he would have forced him into anything he wouldn't
have been comfortable with.
Someone may know more about this than I. If so, join in the discussion.
