I was just watching an old episode of The Donna Reed Show on hulu. Mary was making oatmeal for breakfast and it was very obvious that the oatmeal was Quaker brand in the large round box. They had large black tape completely covering the name Quaker and the picture of the Quaker. It was so noticeable and was apparent that they didn't even try to disguise the fact that it was tape. I know it was very important that brand names not be shown on episodes like this. I have notice that at Wally's the oil cans are always facing backwards so the brand name cannot be seen and names are not shown on any other types of products, but nothing so blatant as black tape was ever used to just cover up the names. I have also noticed that no one every mentioned having a "coke" at any time in Mayberry. They used root beer a lot but that is a generic term for a soft drink.
