What a great clip of Howard McNair on "The Jack Benny Show". It is amazing
how his mannerisms on that skit are exactly like those as Floyd on TAGS. It
must be the actor of the man. It is so much fun to see our beloved Mayberry
stars performing in other movies and shows. I spent the weekend watching
"The Reluctant Astronaut", "How to Frame a Figg", "The Amazing Mr. Limpet",
and my favorite "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken." How different these classic
movies are from what comes out of Hollywood today. Back then we didn't need
violence, sex, four letter words, and special effects to make a movie
enjoyable. We just wanted great acting, good clean humor, and a clever
story line.
Too bad the writers of TAGS couldn't have gotten Jack Benny to appear in an
episode. He could have been passing through town and got stopped by Barney.
Being the cheapskate that he always portrayed, he could have refused to pay
the fine, thus he would have had to spend the night in jail. Enter Otis
with a snootful and all kinds of scenarios could have been written.
