I will add to those well-wishers of the Newsome family and their Alabama
Neighbors. I will also add that I am happy that David and Patty Browning, and
Pat and Bob are OK after that harrowing experience. I've met them all and they
are wonderful people. As scary as the hotel story was..driving 80 MPH op on a
country road would scare the bejeebers out of me...the way I drive. Glad
everyone is safe, and prayers of course to the families of those not so
forunate.

Someone made an interesting comment recently that I thought related well to our
favorite show. The observation was that air conditioning changed our social
culture because people stopped being outside on their porches or in the shade
and they started spending most of thier time indoors enjoying the cool of air
conditioning.

It seems that Mayberry was set in time a few years before A/C..wouldn't you
agree? Did we ever see evidence of Air conditioning?? (I know--kind of like
seeing the Count) Even in places like Walnut Hills or Raliegh? So what we'd
be looking for is a scene in the heat of summer, but where no one appeared hot
or uncomfotable.

I don't want to turn this is to a long strain of philospohical meanderings
about the good ole days, but comments also welcome on that theory that A/C
changed the culture. Did we stop socialiing as much when we went indoors where
(remember the sign on store windows) Its cool inside.
