I know no one here is making comparisons, but.....Personally, I wouldn't mention The Andy Griffith Show and 3's Company in the same breath!
Don Knotts made television "history" (that's my subject!) on TAGS. There are very few 'supporting actors' who's roles played such a significant part in film and television, (Gracie Allen * Art Carney...) Knotts was as good as it gets. In my book, the best.
