I had yet another wonderful parade experience. This time back in my home town
of Dorchester, Wisconsin. I walked the streets I once walked and saw people
that I hadn't seen for almost 50 years. Had a chicken dinner in my old high
school auditorium where I danced my first dance and dribbled my first
basketball. I was given a tour of my elementary school where I once attended
and then where I student taught. It is now an assisted living facility. Had my
picture taken for the village website. The police chief activated his siren
and lights and shook my hand when I walked past his black and white squad car.
Such a fuss, and all I wanted to do was slip into town, have a few laughs, and
then slip out of town. But I was asked to put my car in the car show where
again I met former childhood friends and relatives. However, with all the
glamour there comes the challenges. I discovered on the drive over that James
Best and I have something in common. He had Boss Hogg to contend with and I
have Gas Hog to contend with. Wow does that 352 squad car engine drink the
gas. And at almost $4.00 a ding, you can be sure I won't be taking it on any
cross country trips. It was definitely made for 30 cent a gallon gas. But what
a joy to drive even though my wife had to drive it as I cannot drive on
freeways. But all in all it was an emotional packed day. I posted a very
short video of the very end of the parade showing me walking with the car and
my two nieces helping to hand out Mayberry stickers. If you would like to see
