I received a very nice surprise this weekend. We were in a parade at a
neighboring town. The folks there were so receptive and enthusiastic when they
saw the car and "The Mayberry Guru" walking behind. They really like the dummy
prisoner in the back seat. I now have him handcuffed. One woman was looking
at the car before the parade and she looked in the back seat and when she saw
the moonshiner she let out a scream. She thought he was real. Well anyway,
back to my story. We had to leave early because we had to make some church
visitations for shut in's. I left the squad car in our driveway unlocked when
we did that. (just like in Mayberry). Later when I went out to put the car
away I found a first place trophy in the front seat. Someone at the parade had
delivered it. A bit later one of the judges called to check on whether or not I
got it and she said the people really wanted the Mayberry car to win and when
they announced the winner everyone stood up and cheered. Good thing we weren't
there or I might have cried. Us Anderson's are sensitive.

One thing I am learning about my uniform this summer is that it is hot. Dang
hot.  Can't understand how Andy and Barn could wear theirs all summer long;
especially Barney with the tie and gun belt. I wear it for about an hour in
the parades and I am about ready to collapse. And then to ride around in the
squad car without air conditioning in that heat wearing those uniforms must
have really been torture. And then I think about how Barney did that and then
went to have dinner with Melissa Stevens without even changing into other
clothes. All I can say is that they must have had some awfully good deodorants
and body soap in Mayberry.
