To answer the question posted about whether or not I ever cooked in my room
when I was renting a room in a rooming house while teaching. I can honestly
say I never cooked in my room. However, I was once asked to leave because I
did not keep the wash basin very clean. I was not a very tidy person. I
couldn't find another room like that in Mrs.Waddlebutt's house, so I set up a
cot and a few things in my classroom and decided to stay there until I found
something. Well, one night after the movies I took my girlfriend Thorny Rose up
to my classroom. We were playing school and she kept turning the lights on and
off. The principal and his son happened to be walking by on their way home
from a boy scout meeting and they came to see what was going on. Mr. Smith
pretended he was looking for a blame grading manual he had left in my room and
while he looked for it I stuck my head in a filing cabinet pretending to look
for a test paper to grade. His kid kept yammering on and on about his merit
badges and when I finally told him to be quiet he yelled to his dad that I had
spilled red ink all over my face. Mr. Smith told him that Miss Rose would take
care of the ink and as he was leaving he told me that I had better find myself
a room. Well, fortunately Mrs. Waddlebutt forgave me for my untidiness and
promised to let me move back in if I promised to keep the wash basin clean. So
all in all everything worked out just fine.
