Thanks to all of you who responded on my question of "five" or "5".  As I
ponder this some more I am more inclined to think that it was
engraved five.  That way if Barney every wanted to, he could easily have
the engraving changed to fife and it could be handed down to
any  little Fife's that he and Thelma Lou might have begat after they got
married.
