Don Knotts most definitely had blue eyes. The confusion most likely stems from that famous "bug-eyed" photo of Barney in uniform, which someone colorized incorrectly. Whoever doctored the original black and white photo obviously did not know that Mr. Knotts had blue eyes, and not only that, they also made Barney's tie and the bill of his hat brown, instead of the correct black.
