Everyone got most of the western sidekicks. Someone mentioned Edgar
Buchanan. While Edgar Buchanan played in quite a few cowboy movies, he was
never what you would call a sidekick. In each movie, he played with a
different person, and he played different roles, none of them a
"sidekick".However, Frank Meyers (Andy Clyde) was Hopalong Cassidy's sidekick,
California Carson in quite a few movies in the late 40's. And Dub Taylor, who
played Emmitt's brother-in-law, was billed under the name Cannonball Taylor
when he rode the range with first, The Durango Kid, and then later with Jimmy
Wakley. The one I found hard to believe was that Barnaby Jones, Jed Clampett,
David Browne, yes, Buddy Ebsen was at one time in the early 50's a comic
western sidekick. He was paired with Rex Allen for a half a dozen movies. The
final sidekick was not in the movies. For 10 years from 1953-1962, Mayor Roy
Stoner (Parley Baer) was Deputy Chester Proudfoot working for Matt Dillon on
the radio show Gunsmoke. When you listen to the shows, it is hard to
recognize Parley's voice, but the voice of Doc (Howard McNeer) is quite
recognizeable. Orville Hendricks - Mt. Pilot's Butter and Egg Man.
