My bride, Kathy, and I are retired and enjoying life in SC. I'm a HUGE
TAGS fan. (Even have a large Mayberry room over our garage and own a
1961 Ford Fairlane 500 Replica Squad Car). We enjoy our church work and
I do a So. Gospel radio program on the local Country station on Sunday
morning.
Spent 25 years in radio broadcasting in Indiana & Florida; 21 years in
the Army Reserves; 14 years in Transportation at Walt Disney World.
Honored to be one of 10 finalists for WDW Ambassador in 2002. Also was
the Ringmaster for 8 years for the annual Peru Amatuer Circus in
Indiana. And directed and acted in several plays with the Ole Olsen
Memorial Theatre group from 1967-1980. I've had a BLESSED life!

Statesville, N.C. about 30 min. south of Mayberry (Mt. Airy). I have
been a fan of TAGS all of my life & am glad to see groups such as this

Born into a Pastor's home in Raleigh, NC. Grew up with Mayberry serving
as my most permanent address, since Dad's ministry took our family all
over NC. Now I'm a pastor & College professor (Lee University). Mayberry
is still my second address. When I go back to King, NC to see my mother,
I enjoy slipping over to Mt. Airy for a haircut or a pork chop sandwich.

I'm a Virginian who has lived down in NC for the past 3 years attending
graduate school at NC State and UNC. How fitting that an Andy Griffith
fan winds up in North Carolina just 2 hours from Mt. Airy.
I grew up on Andy Griffith. Growing up in a rural area with no cable,
for the first 14 years of my life (before my dad finally broke down and
got a satellite dish), I could watch 3 channels - PBS, NBC, and ABC.
Fortunately our local ABC network showed back to back Andy episodes
every weekenday from 5-6. I watched it EVERY day after school. The best
was when my PawPaw, who lived in town and had cable would tape the "8
Great Hours of Andy" programs on TBS. As soon as I would get the tape,
the next Saturday I would literally spend the entire day watching Andy -
yep 16 episodes! It was the ultimate marathon.
The next big thrill was when these things called DVDs became all the
rage and over the span of a few years my parents got me every season.
What a shock it was to discover that so many of the episodes I'd enjoyed
as a kid had actually been cut to fit the time slots of ABC and TBS. I
still remember seeing the first "cut" ending to a show and being blown
away at my good fortune to have new elements to so many of the shows
that I'd seen a dozen times before.
Like many Andy fans we've had pets and farm animals named after Andy,
including Barney the cat, Mr. Schwump the steer, and most recently,
Leonard Blush the ram.
My favorite episodes include Kerosene Cucumbers, A Plaque for Mayberry,
The Cow Thief, A Christmas Story, and anything with the Darlings.

Forty-eight years ago my mother and father brought me home from the
hospital and to the small town of Casar, NC. I lived there for the first
twenty-five years of my life and then I got married to the most
beautiful woman in the world and we moved to the another small town
called Crouse, NC. We lived there for the next ten years until we
decided we wanted to try city life. We found a house we liked and moved
to the big city (actually it's another small town but it does have
STOPLIGHTS! =))of Cherryville, NC. We have lived in Cherryville for the
last thirteen years. Each of these towns has so much in common with
Mayberry that I feel like I grew up with Opie.
The Andy Griffith Show has been a show I have watched as long as I can
remember. I am very thankful for reruns when it comes to shows like
this. The characters on the show seemed real to me because I knew those
people. They had different names back in my home town but we had an
Andy, Aunt Bea, Barney, Floyd, Otis, Gomer, Goober, Thelma Lou, Helen,
Clara, Howard, Emmet, Opie and we even had a little Leon or two.
Some people say they wouldn't go back in time if they could but, if I
could go back to those days again, I would do it in a heartbeat.
