I don't think that the county would spring for air conditioning for the
Sheriff's Office... Andy, Barney, and any prisoner, would just have to sweat
and be miserable during those hot humid summers.... just like most folks in
Mayberry. Probably only a few well-off citizens and a handful of businesses
had A/C. Plus... I never saw any physical signs of an A/C unit in the
jailhouse.Weaver's Department Store did big bang-up business when it came to
selling oscillating fans and water cooler room conditioners. If there was an
air conditioner in the jailhouse, over half the town would be in there loafing,
relaxing, and taking advantage of that chilled air! (lol)
