It seems the Taylors received their mail at various times and places. When
Aunt Bee received the letter from Roger Hanover it arrived in the morning
before Andy went to work. In the episode when Uncle Bradford sent a letter
about raising mink, Andy brought it to Aunt Bee when he came home. It also
seemed that the Taylors received some of their personal mail at home, while
Andy received his Christmas cards at the courthouse. Curious and
curiouser. In one episode Andy told Barney it was time for the mail to be
in so Barney went to the post office to get the mail. In other episodes
the mail man brings the mail to the courthouse personally. Mail is also
received at the courthouse through the slot in the door such as when Otis
received his letter. Quite often in small towns people would pick up their
mail at the post office from their own box, but I would think Mayberry was
too large for that system. Just one of those little irritating
inconsistencies in Mayberry that gives us something to ponder.
