Hi Gang,
It was a real ("BIG") pleasure getting to return to Mayberry Days again this
year, after being absent last year.
Arriving on Friday, I first encountered Floyd sitting on a park bench, chatting
with a few of us. A lady barber arrived and wanted a picture of her cutting
Floyd's hair, so I snapped a few of the ceremonial hair clipping. There were
quite a few loose scalps around, let me tell you what! It was nice to meet you
again, Allen.
I found the Mayberry postmark, and the friendly folks at the post office gave
me the scoop on that.
Moseying on down (or up) to the Andy Griffith Museum, I chatted with Emmett
Forrest and Allen and took their photo. Emmett has some nice new items in
there, including a sheet music for "What It Was Was Football" that I hadn't
seen before. He also pointed me to the Mad magazine that featured Andy, from
1958, I think.
George Lindsey, Jr. was super friendly, and we chatted for quite some time in
the lower level of the museum. He posed with me, and mentioned that he would
be "barely recognizable" in the Saturday parade.
Saturday began with the great and incredible parade with the traditional rain,
which was all a part of the proceedings. I could just picture the rain storm
that happened that one time when the gold truck came to town. There were some
new fun girls, as well, and one gave me a "kiss", but it melted later. Haha
I saw a "new" Barney or two, one in complete motorcycle "decoy - Shazam!"
costume that included a bush and a lifelike machine gun. The Brower Interviews
and chapter meeting were enjoyable, as always.
Thanks for all who made it so enjoyable!
Over and Under,
Clyde "Barn"
