Thought everyone might enjoy knowing that Mayberry is alive and well at
Tennessee Department of Transportation. Being in IT, most all issues come
across my desk in one respect or another. About lunchtime, an incident was
created for the network printer over by the wall about 20 ft. or so from my
desk. Rather than issue it out to another technician, I decided to try and
resolve the problem myself of no connectivity to the network. I rebooted the
server, the printer, uninstalled and reinstalled the printer driver - nothing
worked. Then I had an idea that it might be a bad network cable. So I said to
the folks around me, "I wonder if we need bigger wires". They laughed and
someone mumbled, "yeah right", so I went and got a new network cable. Now the
new one was a little bit bigger in diameter than the old one...about the
difference between 2 ga. and 4 ga. wire. I plugged it in and the printer began
working. The look on their faces was priceless. So you see, there IS some
credence to getting bigger wires. Just sayin'.
