Everybody loves the episode Barney's First Car. Don Knotts gave a stellar performance in this episode, displaying several emotions, including jubilation, sympathy, embarrassment, extreme sadness, outrage, puzzlement, suspicion, triumph and probably half a dozen more.
But let's look at all the plot holes in this story (never mind the fact that Barney already had a car, which we saw earlier in the episode Runaway Kid). Here we go: Andy and Barney head to Mt. Pilot in a broken-down car that has almost zero chance of getting them to their destination. They don't know where Mrs. Lesch lives; a con artist like her certainly wouldn't have provided her correct address, for that matter Lesch probably isn't even her real name. Even if Andy and Barney made it to Mt. Pilot, what then? Were they just going to knock on every door in town looking for her? I suppose maybe Sarah could have found an address to go with the phone number from the classified ad, but even if they were able to find her that way, what then? Were they planning to slap the cuffs on her and march her all the way back to Mayberry on foot in the middle of the night? Why didn't one of them drive the lemon (or just have Gomer tow it to Mt. Pilot) while the other followed in the squad car? Why didn't they ever involve the sheriff of Mt. Pilot? I thought of all this standin' in the corner.
