Hello All I know we didn't see a TV at the beginning. But, it is possible it was put up and brought out to watch. Daddy had ours in a cabinet and it was out of site when not in use. Most TVS in the late 50s were still big but were starting to go portable by 1960. TV evolved fast in early 1960s. In 1971 I received a portable with built in handle and about a 19" screen. And still a b & w. And ken is right they were in consoles with radios and phonographs too. And some consoles had no tv. I watched the date with gomer tonight. Thelma Lou. Told Barney if he didn't get Mary grace a date she wasn't going to the dance. Barney thought Andy should take her out and he said he was taking Miss Crump. It was a sweet episode.
