Well, being from the south it stands to reason that I'd know at least one 
homemade moonshiner. Just happens to be my father. And as everyone knows in 
small towns, everyone knows everyone else's business. Sooooooo....to not draw 
attention he didn't buy sugar and corn in massive quantities. He had all his 
customers bring him 5 lb bags of sugar and 25 lb bags of cracked corn they 
could get at the plentiful (farm) feed stores in exchange for a pony keg filled 
to the tap. On his "cooking" days my brother and I would get off the school bus 
a block away and sniff the air. If it reeked we'd go to a friend's house til 
the neighborhood smelled better......I had a very active childhood. (this is a 
true story.....not one of Ken's make believes :)
