I rarely watch the Academy Awards because, in my opinion, much of the voting is
based on popularity or sympathetic roles, but I do try to watch the segment
called "In Memoriam" where they show the names of people who have passed away
in the last year.  I did catch this year's show, assuming they they would show
Andy Griffith's name.  Well, I watched the segment, and to my dismay, they
didn't!  I was in disbelief.  How the Academy could list a bunch of writers and
production personnel that most people haven't heard of, but omit one of the
biggest names, if not in film (although he had some critically-acclaimed
roles), but television, is beyond me.  Even Whitney Houston received Academy
recognition after she died, and how many films was she in?  Michael Jackson?
Don't even get me started.  This glaring omission of Andy Griffith only adds to
my already-low opinion that the entire Academy Awards (I hate calling it the
"Oscars") show is a joke.
