Regarding "Opie & The Carnival" when Goober wet his front gun sight, he must 
have seen the movie Sgt.York over at the Grand! That's a pretty memorable scene 
from the movie. Wetting your front sight was a pretty common practice for 
shooting in low-light situiations. Being wet made it glisten a little, making 
it 
easier to see. Same thing for darkening it with soot or a marker in brighter 
situations to reduce glare. My grandfather taught me to do both.
