Hello! Just reporting on an amazing weekend in Lebanon, MO. The Lebanon
Lions Club hosted two concerts--Friday night was gospel bluegrass with The
Dillards and The Harper Family. Two hours of absolutely amazing,
inspiring, uplifting gospel music. Saturday afternoon was The Dillards,
Lonesome Road, 12-year-old fiddler Brett Dudenhoeffer, and Rural Roots.
Four hours of amazing bluegrass. After the Friday night concert we met
Rodney Dillard, took pics of him with me and with our grandchildren, and
had a nice conversation. He is an amazingly nice guy. Of course, Mitch
Jayne and Doug Dillard have both passed away, and Dean Webb has his own
business, so Rodney's band is different guys. But, boy, are they good.
Some outstanding picking and fiddling. And his wife Beverly is great on
the bamjo and adds a nice female voice to the mix. We got to hear all the
Darlin' favorites from Mayberry--Dooley, Leaning on the Everlasting Arms,
Doug's Tune, Ebo Walker, There is a Time, Salty Dog. Rodney told some
funny stories about happenings on the Andy Griffith Show set. It was just
a fantastic weekend. And after the show Saturday, Rodney greeted us and
even remember our grandson's name. WOW! Let me tell you, when a
9-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy sit mesermized for 6 hours of bluegrass
over two days, it is some kind of good music. Of course I know you'd go
see The Dillards if they were anywhere near you, but also please go see the
Harper Family if you have the chance. Their 13-year-old daughter Hannah
has some kind of voice. She's going to be a star for sure. We're still
basking in the Mayberry glow.
