Town drunk was so beloved that even the local police mourn his death9 hrs ago

Alvin Cote racked up 843 public drunkenness arrests during his time as a
homeless alcoholic in Saskatoon, Canada. So by the time he died last month at
the age of 59, local cops knew and tolerated Cote (Catchphrase: "I'm a
fighter") so much that they put his police sketch on T-shirts to commemorate
his death. Cote was so beloved during his life, the police gave him eyeglasses
from charity boxes earmarked for Africa; they bought him food and celebrated
his birthday. It might seem troublesome to lionize a town drunk, but if a man
can be judged by how he's remembered after he's gone, Cote was much, much more
than that. [Source]
