I had a Mayberry moment this week when I asked a neighborhood lady, likely
in her late 80's, to do a men's pants alteration for me. When I asked her
the cost, she said, "Well, it's a little more than $5, but not quite $10,
so would $7 be okay?" In this day of what often seems to be stinging
service prices, I thought it was such a sweet response and it reminded me
of Bert Miller, who never wanted to offend anyone by charging too much.
BTW, I wouldn't have been surprised if she'd charged $20 for this tedious
job so I'm gonna come out $10 to the good when I happily and gratefully pay
$10. "Bless her heart."
