I am in the process of reading the novel "The Hen of Baskervilles" by Donna Andrews. Story takes place at a fair in a small town in Virginia. Shortly before the judging of prize chickens is about to take place a chicken thief steals two expensive show chickens. The sheriff is at a loss as to how to solve the crime as this is his first experience with chicken thieves. Now here is what I think is going to happen.
Seeing Andy and Barney have nothing else to do except for catching chicken thieves and whatnot, the sheriff will call in Andy and Barney to help. Barney is a bit nervous about the case because you know what Barney says. If a chicken lays its eggs in your hair and they break then you go crazy and the yoke is on you. Barney discovers a set of three footprints, so Barney assumes it is the work of a chicken thief gang, perhaps hired by Colonel Saunders. But Andy thinks the prints could be the prints of just one thief and two chickens. So Barney decides to make a moulage. At first he thought of keeping it quiet but then decided making a big moulage might be the best thing. So Barney makes his moulage, but unfortunately he gets the recipe wrong and instead of using plaster of Paris he uses flour. So the moulage does not harden and during the night the two stolen chickens managed to escape and they came back to the fair. However, they got stuck walking through the the flour moulage and because it was so hot on that Virginia summer day, Barney ended up with a giant chicken pot pie. This all proves on thing.
