> Goober's gas pumps being .65 cents per gallon.
I don't recall ever seeing that price but in episode Man in a Hurry, Gomer
explains to Mr. Tucker that at Wally's there's no charge for air or water. They
are free, however, they have to make a charge for gas, depending on how many
times the pump goes ding.........thirty cents a ding.
And that's exactly what I recall from the '60s. Gas was in the low to mid 30
cent range well into the early '70s. My mom would make a big deal about gassing
up when she went to the commissary on base because military gas was about a
dime cheaper per gallon than in-town gas. Once right after I got my permanent
driver's license, '68, and wanted to drive to the base to see a friend, she
handed me a $5 bill and said to get five.....Barney would be proud of me as I
promptly went and got $5 worth of gas, almost filled the tank. When I got home
she blew a gasket when I had no change as she meant for me to get 5 gallons,
not $5 worth. Funny memory!!
Harriet, the chicken thief, hiding out in Kelsey's Woods, USA
....Johnny Paul Jason says chewing tar is good for the teeth......That's an
old wives tale....Johnny Paul ain't married.....
