Gas in the 60s was not .65 a gallon, but more like 35c a gallon. I once
came upon a gas war when I was in the Navy, at a Suffolk VA station it was
14.9 a gallon, so I filled up. Had been about 120 miles so it took about 6
gallons in my 1953 Pontiac Chieftan, Straight 8, Straight stick, no power
equipment at all, getting about 21 mpg. Not bad for that car back then!! By
the next weekend it was back up to 29c a gallon. Ridiculous!!
