Larry asked about natural disasters in Mayberry. The town once experienced a
flood, but we are never told anything about it. In the episode Andy's Vacation,
Barney says "I can get Gomer as a deputy, he's still sworn in from the flood."
Then again, it may have been only the courthouse that was flooded. That has
been known to happen; Andy says so in Andy and the Gentleman Crook ("this place
ain't been so clean since the boiler busted and flooded the place.")
Mayberry has also been hit by at least one tornado. Andy mentions it in the
episode Goober's Contest, when he predicts that Floyd will react badly to being
informed that he did not really win a $200 cash prize.
Funny how a disaster changes the way folks think about things. Every event in
Joplin, for example, either happened before the tornado or after the tornado.
It's sort of like how dates include B.C. or A.D.
