I issued myself a challenge today to find at least one TAGS alumni in the first
show I watched on TV today. So I thought to myself, I will make it a really
hard test, so I selected a movie from 1941 called "Look Who's Laughing" on TCM
starring several old radio stars, Edgar Bergen, Fibber McGee and Molly, and The
Great Gildersleeve. Also starring was Lucille Ball (who starred in "My
Favorite Husband" on radio before she came to television).
Well in no time at all, Fibber McGee was at the Elks Lodge ordering up a big
party. Who should be in charge of the Elks Lodge but a very young Mr. Frisby?
Then a little later Charley McCarthy was drinking ice cream sodas in the
local drug store and who should be the soda jerk? None other than Bert
Miller. I tell you, you have to go a long ways to watch old time television
without seeing a TAGS alumni.
Speaking of old time radio stars, you would be really surprised at the great
number of old time radio stars who appeared on TAGS. I won't list them,
because I realize most of you are not as crazy about old time radio as me, but
trust me, almost everyone on TAGS appeared at one time or another on old time
radio.
