Well, it looks like Ken and Aunt Bee are having chicken for dinner, and I'm 
having crow. I re-watched Banjo-Playing Deputy, and while Andy reluctantly gave 
Jerry permission to wear a deputy uniform ("but NO BADGE,"), that was only 
AFTER Jerry had gone to the carnival. So, Ken is right, Jerry was definitely 
impersonating an officer — a very serious offense. 

It's been correctly pointed out that both Gomer and Barney disguised their 
voices when they went to see the Miracle Salve people. Barney also disguises 
his voice (on the phone) in The Legend of Barney Fife, when Goober called, 
because Barney was afraid an escapee was after him. One other instance of 
someone disguising their voice is when Opie and his friend used a small 
walkie-talkie to make Goober think his dog could talk.
