> I mean when a Mayberry CHARACTER played a character

Well, Barney played the peace pipe smoking Naugatuck and what Indian was Andy?
Does Barney dressed like Mrs. Cox of the 3rd grade count? How about when he
played Mrs. Magruder's sister (or was it cousin?). Does Aunt Bee count when
she dressed up like a swinging floozy for Prof. St. John? Does Otis count when
he was dressed as a Mayberry Deputy? Or Ernest T. Bass dressed as a Mayberry
deputy to get his uniform? If Otis and Mr. Bass count then I guess the visiting
Jerry (Jerry Van Dyke) would count as playing a Mayberry deputy when he put on
a uniform and tried to arrest the criminals at the carnival. Do regular
citizens count if they are sworn in as Mayberry deputies? How about in
Convicts at Large when Big Maude claimed the three were Girl Scouts? When Opie
put on a sticky mustache he asked Andy if Andy knew who he was. What character
was Opie portraying?

And what about Mayberry deputies? Just how many have we seen?
