Last night I listened to the last episode of "Gunsmoke" that was broadcast on
radio. The date of the show was 18 June, 1961 and the title was "Letter Of
The Law".
The episode featured Howard McNear (Floyd) as Doc Adams. In this episode he
helps deliver a baby, but the child is unfortunately, stillborn. That got me
to thinking, so I looked it up and his first appearance as Floyd in TAGS was 2
January 1961 in "Mayberry Goes Hollywood". So I guess you could say that
from January until June of 1961 that Howard McNear had 2 jobs. He had played
Doc Adams for 8 years on Gunsmoke on the radio (1953-1961), and Floyd the
Barber for 6 years (2 January 1961 - 10 April 1967, "Goober's Contest").
These were his two longest running jobs in radio or television.
