I had a most enjoyable visit today with a neighboring town barber. We were
part of a "Paint the Town Pink" in a neighboring city last night. While
walking down Main Street visiting with folks we came upon a small Barber
Shop that was open. I decided to go in and check to see if Floyd was
there. The only person in the shop was the barber, so we started to
visit. I found out he was a brother to a gentleman who I know quite well
from the town where I taught for 30 years. We had a nice talk about the
changing times. The barber is 73 years old and has been barbering for over
50 years. I asked him about his clientèle and he said about 90% are over
the age of 50 and that a small one chair shop that caters to men is truly
one more wonderful tradition that is quickly disappearing. I was so sorry
that I was not in need of a haircut or I would have had one right then and
there. However, I am sure I will take the drive back there and have him cut
my hair when I next need one.

Two little notes of humor. As we were arriving into town a carload of
young guys were beside us and when they saw the car, they all yelled,
"Hey, the Blues Brothers." Guess I know what TV show they never watch.

Then a young gal who was talking about her husband being in jail told me
that her all time favorite show is "The Andy Griffin Show". Well, so much
for buying that story.

Saturday we are heading back to the town where I taught for 30 years. They
are having their first annual "Fall Merchant Bizarre Day" and they asked if
I would bring the squad car and set up a Mayberry Booth. I am also going
to conduct a Mayberry Trivia Contest under the Entertainment Tent. Not
sure how it will go as this is the first time they are having it and the
temperature is only suppose to get up to 54.
