Since we have gone to streaming TV I watch the old comedy shows, Petticoat Junction being one of them. There are several episodes that are very familiar. Maybe small towns have a lot in common but one I just watched had a man come in from his farm looking for a wife. He even picks up a woman to check her weight. Included in this one was the mistake of a young man who picked up a ring at the jewelry store for someone else but the people who saw him assumed it was for the man's girlfriend and by the end of the day everyone knew about it.
