I thought the warnings were "a bad thing" even tho it said I validated ok
- now for the font colors, there is no "transparent" choice like for the
background color, so should I just assign a font color and not worry about
it since there is no text?

It does!  Tried for the last 24 hours to get a response on the
www.authoring.stylesheets newsgroup, but with no luck.  Thanks for the
tips...You've helped me before.
