To avoid the problem, on your laptop copy of Eudora, look for an option to
leave a copy of the messages on the server. Usually, once the email client
has safely downloaded all new messages, it sends a command to the server to
delete them, to avoid the mailbox filling up. However there should be a
setting you can change to just download new messages without deleting them
from the server. That way your laptop will still be able to read all new
messages as they arrive, but when you get home and use the desktop you will
download all those messages again from the server (and this time delete them
from there). That's what I do when I'm away from home.

I don't use Eudora so I don't know where to find that setting. In Outlook
Express it's in the account settings under "Advanced".
