Actually Peter, it isn't "my" site. I have nothing to do with the external
site. My stuff is internal. But you'll be pleased to know that Websphere is
almost certainly in our future.

So to close my side of this thread, let me say this:

Websphere is an n-tier model which separates the jsp based web server
(modified to the point of being proprietary), the application server, and
the database (even when they are on the same machine). It's an "integrated"
modular solution. Its supposed advantage is the modularity of code offered
in J2EE. A single Object with name, address, phone number and e-mail isn't
as good as 4 separate Objects because a particular task may only need 2 of
the objects. Theoretically, such modules make it cheaper to redo just the
affected modules when business rules change. Or make it faster and cheaper
to assemble entire new applications, applets, or servlets from the library.
The cost of upgrading Websphere, however, will mitigate any financial
advantages of modularization (the upgrade from 3.5 to 4.x requires extensive
recoding to take advantage of enterprise beans).

To me, this is neither a cheap solution nor particularly efficient. It's a
WYSIWYG solution tied to a single vendor with all the problems that entails.
It is the antithesis of Open Source.

HTML pages regardless of the visitors' browsers

My point was "exactly" to prove you that old cgi-bin (as I saw on your site)
way is archaic, inefficient, highly expensive (I suppose .gov cares less
about taxpayers money) approach to create any Web presence.

I hoped that a simple example with fonts will give you the pportunity to
look around and find out that there are very good advanced technologies
around and unused by you (you as a group). Some of you tried to focus this
discussion around fonts. It was not my goal, and I apologized for using this
thread to convey more general point.

I think I overestimated my ability to prove you anything. Too bad....
Peter.
