Cheryl,
It's a good decision. IMHO, this is an "apple" and "orange" situation. There is no
possible way to achieve performance, scalability, and security on MS similar or even
close to UNIX/Linux environment. We are comparing two distinctly different operating
systems. Said so, I must admit my laptop has two partitions, NT and Linux. Almost all
office work I do on NT, all development - on Linux. I also have to add that my
development environment is Java on Open Source. From what I know, I am not alone. I
suppose the most difficult choice you have to make now in a selection of a development
environment for a “new big thing” – Web Services. Here you have to choose
between .NET with C# on MS or Java on Linux/UNIX. And it will be a discrete choice –
those environments are absolutely non-compatible. I made my choice for now. I believe
it’s a good choice, but to argument it I need a lot of time and writing space. So,
it's up to you and obviously depends on task you want to achieve.
Regards,
Peter
