Do the xml. Between perl, php and the javascript you know, you should have no trouble with the javascript you'll need. And as you move to css/xhtml the amount of javascript should decrease since more of the javascript functions are being built into the browser itself. Something like Visual Quickstart's "Javascript for the World Wide Web" should do it for you.
xml takes a bit more work. Learning DTD's and schema's will benefit you far more than focus() and blur(). When the course is done, you can join the debate over xsl vs DOM+css+javascript as the best way to transform xml. andy -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, October 16, 2002 10:09 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [wdvltalk] XML or JavaScript Hi all. I have the oportunity to take a week long course either in JavaScript or XML and am not sure which would be more beneficial. Currently I work primarily with HTML, PHP, and a bit of Perl. (I have picked up many helpful tips from this list - thanks). I am familiar with the basics (rollovers, form validation, manipulating windows...) of JavaScript. Anyone have any opinions about which would be more worthwhile - expanding my JavaScript knowledge or learning XML which I know nothing about? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
