MySQL in different folder

Just doing this is not working. So I (finally) took the time to read
the manual#installation (who reads manuals anyhow unless you get hit
by ignorance *gg*). There is a fundamental procedure to respect when
installing mySQL in a different folder. Let me c&p the portion of the
manual:

By default, MySQL-Windows is configured to be installed in `C:\mysql'.
If you want to install MySQL elsewhere, install it in `C:\mysql'
first, then move the installation to where you want it. ...
===><=== /mySQL Manual#Installation/ ========
This is a very new way to me for installing SW - but it works :)
Then you need to make the adjustment (as also indicated by you John).

... If you do move MySQL, you must indicate where everything is
located by supplying a --basedir option when you start the server. For
example, if you have moved the MySQL distribution to
`D:\programs\mysql', you must start mysqld like this:

It' important to do the following command by hand in DOS window.
===><=== mySQL Manual#Installation ========
C:\> D:\programs\mysql\bin\mysqld --basedir D:\programs\mysql

In my case this command didn't get back to DOS prompt and was just
hanging some where. But I let it so for about 4-5 min. then closed the
DOS window.
In the d:/my-folder/mysql Folder you have different 'my-xxx.cnf'
files. I took the 'large' one, adjusted the path and other options,
c&p it to my.cnf - and here it goes - the lights at mySQLadmin went
green.
Now I also could see all other Infos such as Variables, Process.
Starting now mysql.exe brings me to the DB command prompt.
Now all is fine. Thanks a lot 'to all for all' especially to John who
guided me into the right direction.
