Thanks When you send a fax you are making an exclusive connection (like a phone call) over the public telephone line between your modem and the recipient's fax machine; when dialled into an ISP the connection is over the line from your modem to the ISP's modem server, so you can't use the same line for fax transmission at the same time as a network connection. Of course if you have two phone lines you could have one modem on COM1 connected to one line and another on COM2 connected to the other and use them for different things at the same time. Or if you have a cable, ADSL or other LAN/WAN network connection, you should be able to make fax transmissions over the telephone line via a modem while still connected to the network. On some office LANS there is a fax card in the server connected to a phone line, or a shared connection on a PC with a fax modem attached, that lets you send faxes as files over the network which are then sent onward by the fax server. There are also companies (like eFax) offering such a service over the Internet. Nobody does it for free because there is no such thing as a free phone call, and every fax message must at some point be sent via a phone call, so sadly you have to pay to send them. Hope some of that is of use or interest!
