If it is other than plain text , i.e. formatted, it is 99% probable that it
is html and yes it would be blocked if the firewall is set to do that, and
of course if they have gone to the trouble of blocking html they have
probably blocked any  attachments.

One remedy for that, as your business is "opt in" is to ask your customers
for their preferred format.....

If they are small businesses and they pay for bandwidth usage on a volume
basis, you can always make it a selling point, 'we use plain text email to
save you money'.

Several of the news mailing lists that I subscribe to send headlines and
links to the relevant story, which I far prefer as my in box of
some 200 + emails each day takes an age to download, if choked with html
emails......lol
