Hello Dave,
This is a report from 2002, perhaps the most recent available.
http://www.newsfactor.com/perl/story/16629.html#story-start
That report states "Nielsen//NetRatings (Nasdaq: NTRT) has reported that in January 2002, broadband use surpassed dial-up time spent online for the first time ever."
I don't doubt that it is a true statement, but it is also a very misleading statement. It has nothing to do with how many have BB service versus dial-up service, but only applies to "hours online"
Broadband users are online 24 hours per day whether or not they are at their computer, or even if their computer is even turned on. Dial-up users tend to be online only when they are actually *using* the service.
Cheers, Tom
The Broadband Edge
"NetRatings reported that almost 22 million home users accessed the Internet via broadband connections in January 2002, a jump of 67 percent from January 2001. At work, the broadband population rose 42 percent to 25.5 million users.
High-speed home users accounted for 21 percent of the total American online population, while workers using broadband comprised 63 percent of the Internet office population, according to the report.
While broadband users made up only about 20 percent of the total online population, they accounted for half of the time spent on the Internet, the report said."
