Hello Group-

I have been asked to make some modifications to a web site that is done in
ASP. I have only one experience using ASP and it was done via the *cookbook*
method. (I bought a password utility using ASP and did manage to get it
installed and running--much to my surprise). Anyway, as all the pages in
this Web site are in ASP I thought I should learn more about it. The
requested changes don't really require ASP -- mostly rewriting the content--
but I don't want to break anything while I am dong this project and thought
this would be a good opportunity to learn something new.

I bought two books -- ASP.NET for Dummies and SAMS Teach Yourself ASP.NET. I
am stuck at the beginning getting the environment set up. I am using a PC
with Windows XP Pro and have a web site that I can use for learning that has
the .NET 1.1 Framework installed. I would rather not set up my PC as a web
server. Can't I just upload the pages to my web site and run them from
there? Do I really need to install IIS and the .NET Framework Software
Development Kit on my PC?

Sorry if this is really a stupid question. Thanks for any advice.

Janet
